Hi my lovelies! I hope you all had a great week and that by now most of you got to go on leave. If not I hope your days at work goes super fast. Now let’s get to today’s post. Star Wars! The latest installment of this iconic movie series, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, started rolling at the cinemas in South Africa on the 15 of December.
I was never the biggest Star Wars fan until my hubby sat me down and let me watch all the movies, in order. Now I love it and I can’t wait to watch the new movie.
Travelstart put together this amazing infographic of how far we are from nine of the epic locations. If you’d like to read more about each of them, head over here to the Travelstart blog where David Daniel Hendricks gives you the low down. There are some of these locations that I’d love to visit.
A South African Star Wars Location
I’m going to share my three top spots in South Africa I think would make a great place to shoot some Star War’s scenes! If only I were George Lucas….
Kaaiman’s River Pass in Wilderness
This gorgeous piece of beach where the Kaaiman’s River meets the ocean will be a great place for Jedi Starfighters to woosh through. The old Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe bridge can play the perfect part, don’t you think? The black water of the Kaaiman’s river will also add that extra special eerie effect. For us regular human’s this is a great spot to walk your dogs and just to have a picnic. I’ve also had great fun kayaking here.
Magaliesburg Mountains
Direct Flights to Johannesburg and a two hour drive will get you to the Magaliesburg area. The wide open spaces will make another great place to shoot some Star Wars scenes. Perhaps they can go on a trek? The Magaliesburg area also has great activities for us non Storm Troopers. Zip lining and hot air balloon rides! I’ve always wanted to take my mom on a hot air balloon ride.
Sterkfontein Caves
Located near Krugersdorp in the Cradle of Mankind the Sterkfontein caves will be the perfect hideout for a Jedi on a mission. I’d even love to see Yoda exploring these caves. If you haven’t been here, it’s a must! It’s really amazing how many finds there’s been in these caves like Mrs Ples (or is it Master Ples?) and Little Foot.
Where in South Africa would you love to see a Star War’s scene done? Let me know by leaving me a comment!
