I’m honestly so frustrated with how women’s health I’m honestly so frustrated with how women’s health gets treated like it’s optional or “not serious enough.”

I have PCOS. Not the cute, watered-down version people talk about. The real one. The one that messes with your hormones, your mental health, your body, your energy, your confidence… everything.

And now I have an ovarian cysts. One that has literally grown 1cm since February.

But somehow, monitoring that? Not important enough. Not covered. Not urgent.

Make it make sense.

We’re told to “keep an eye on it” but then denied the actual tools to keep an eye on it.

We’re told it’s “common” like that somehow makes it less serious.

We’re expected to just wait until something becomes an emergency before it’s taken seriously.

So basically… don’t treat it early, just deal with it when it gets worse?

PCOS isn’t just irregular periods. It’s linked to diabetes, depression, anxiety, fertility struggles, things that affect your whole life. But because it doesn’t fit neatly into a box, it gets brushed aside.

And the most exhausting part? Having to advocate for yourself when you’re already dealing with the physical and emotional toll of it all.

I’m tired of feeling like I have to fight to be taken seriously.

I’m tired of systems that only react when things get bad instead of helping prevent that point.

Women deserve better care. Full stop.

If you’ve dealt with something similar, I see you 🤍

If you’ve ever considered getting a Mirena and you If you’ve ever considered getting a Mirena and you have PCOS… please read this first.

No one warned me that getting one could feel like being emotionally drop-kicked by a dementor.

I did my research. I knew about the “low hormones” and the “bit of discomfort.” I walked in thinking I was prepared.

I was not.

The insertion? Not just uncomfortable.
More like “grip the table and question your life choices” kind of pain.

Then came the plot twist:
They found a cyst. Which meant a 5-day course of Provera. Two pills a day.

So now picture this:
A dementor slowly sucking out your happy hormones
+
The Mad Hatter running your emotional control panel

That’s what those first few days felt like.

The cramps weren’t normal period cramps.

They were deep, constant, and very much giving “my uterus is filing a formal complaint.”

And the hormone shift? Immediate.
Not dramatic sadness. Just this weird, foggy, emotionally flat but somehow overwhelmed feeling.

Like your brain is buffering… but never loads.

Nothing was “wrong.”

But WOW… that was a lot for my body.

I wish more people spoke about the immediate aftermath, not just the long-term benefits.

If you’ve experienced this too, please tell me I’m not alone 👀

And if you’re about to go through it: Rest.
Be gentle with yourself.

Line up a comfort show, trust me.

🖤

Being referred to a specialist can be overwhelming Being referred to a specialist can be overwhelming, especially when you assume your medical aid will cover everything.

When my GP referred me to a gynecologist for my PCOS, I learned the hard way that medical aid doesn’t always pay the full amount.

That difference becomes an unexpected out-of-pocket expense.

Here’s how gap cover helps…

It bridges that gap by covering specialist shortfalls, even when medical aid falls short, from just R345 per month.

Because when you’re dealing with your health, the last thing you should worry about is the financial gap.
