This week I joined Melanie from Melanie’s Nook for her weekly trials where she puts 5 to 6 items against each other. You can catch up with her previous trials on the instagram stories as well as this week’s Sheet Mask Trials. We shared our thoughts on one sheet mask each day during the week and I’ve decided to do a roundup post here on the blog.
The New Neutrogena Hydro Boost Mask
Also called the super hydrator, hydrogel recovery mask. Wow what a mouth full. The mask is packed full of hyaluronic acid and uses a hydrogel cooling technology that’s made from 100% active serum. It offers intense hydration for noticeably supple skin. This mask delivers the equivalent of 30ml concentrated serum in just 15 minutes.
The serum with this mask is super super runny so be careful when you take if out of the packet, my bed sheets got a good dose of moisture as well when I took it out! Unlike the regular paper sheet mask this jelly like mask isn’t as cold and fits really comfortably on your skin It come in two parts which also makes it easier to apply. It kinda sucks on as well stopping it from sliding off if you move around.
My skin was extremely dry before trying this mask and I’ve noticed a huge difference in my skin hydration. My skin is soft and supple and my makeup applies better. No more piling onto dry skin on my forehead.
It has a hefty price tag of +- R75 but considering you only need to use it once a month it’s a fair deal and still cheaper than a salon facial!
Cettua Anti-Aging Facial Sheet Mask
This mask is made in Korea and contains 4 Marine Complex that reduces the visible signs of aging and revitalises the skin. Adenosine helps to reduce the signs of fine lines and wrinkles and improves elasticity. It provides essential nutrition for revitalized younger looking skin.
The serum from this mask was on the thicker side and white. The paper/tissue mask was easy to apply but a little bit on the cold side (it is winter after all) This one stays on for 10 to 20 minutes, I always leave it on for the maximum time.
So close to 36 and I’m noticing those fine lines and one big wtf line between my eyes (no hope for that one I guess) This was the first mask I’ve tried specifically targeted at aging. My skin felt smooth and plump after use. It is however reccomended to be used 2 to 3 times a week so I am not able to comment on longer use. The Cettua masks are prices from R24 – R70 and at the reccomended use frequency they will work out to quite an amount.
Foschini Bio Cellulose Coconut Face Sheet Mask
The Foschini beauty range is new to me and I was really excited to try this mask. It’s hydrating and moisturising, containing antioxidants, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. I feel that the amount of serum in the packet is a bit wasteful. I could cover my entire body and I still had some left. It’s also super super runny and messy to use.
If you look past the runny serum the mask is actually really nice. The sheet itself is somewhere between a gel and paper and isn’t as cold. The mask sat comfortably and my skin felt supple and moisturised after use. I used some of the excess serum on my feet and legs and they actually felt less dry the following morning.
Recommended use is is once to twice a week and the price tag is R70. Keep in mind that this mask is vegan and cruelty free too. A good buy in my books even with the price a bit more on the pricey side.
Garnier Moisture Bomb Tissue Mask
This super-hydrating revitalising mask intensely hydrates the skin. It reduces the look of fine lines and revives radiance. It contains pomegranate extract, hyaluronic acid, and plant serum. A great mask for dehydrated skin and it’s suitable for sensitive skin as well. It delivers all this goodness in 15 minutes.
The serum’s consistency wasn’t too runny and I found the mask easy to use. Again a bit on the cold side (this was another tissue sheet) My skin was radiant enough today for me to be confident enough to go to the mall without the worry of applying any makeup.
The reccomended use for this one is once a week and they’re R50 each. It works out a little less than going for a monthly facial, so if you’re on the run I highly these are perfect. You will also see your skin improve over a week’s duration.
Glamglow Bubble Sheet Mask
The oxygenating deep cleanse mask with green tea teaoxi works to reveal glowing, deeply purified skin in just three minutes. Upon application, this bamboo charcoal-infused sheet mask activates an oxygenating and tingling 3D bubbling experience that instantly invigorates, detoxifies, and removes face makeup.
This mask produced more bubbles than I expected! It actually started sliding off my face. The experience was very unique and after I removed it I was left with a thick layer of foam on my face. The foam was very squishy and it felt nice rubbing it over my face. After rinsing my skin was left refreshed and soft but it felt a bit tight at first.
At R125 for a weekly mask this is the most expensive one I tried for The Nook Trials. Recommended use is once a month or as required. If my maths are correct this one doesn’t work out the most expensive if you want to use it for a month but is it a tough call between 4 3 min masks or one 60 minute facial?
Conclusion
Out of the 5 masks I tried I’d say the Neutrogena masks is the best value for money and the foschini one would be most costly based on a the reccomended use for a month.
