Salinas Beach Restaurant in Wilderness is one of very few restaurants in the area that offers an ocean view giving it that little something extra special. They offer an idyllic culinary experience, overlooking the main beach. I’ve been here a couple of times but I always forget my camera! This time Salinas was it and I got some yummy food shots, but it was already getting dark and it was misty so I couldn’t get shots of the amazing view.
The Salinas Menu
They have a large menu and it was a bit overwhelming for an indecisive person like me, I changed what I wanted to order like 3 times! For a starter you can choose from their Tapas menu OR if you’re a large group you can make a meal of it and order a bunch of different things to share. One of the most interesting items for me on their tapas menu is definitely their beer battered fried chips. Fried fries! We got the battered chips, calamari strips and a fish curry.
Salads and burgers are next (and on the lighter side of things) but their burgers are quite large, I once tried to make my own surf and turf with a burger and calamari on the side and I could barely finish my meal. My mom had a half serving of their cajun chicken salad as a starter. I really loved that you could half the salad portions.
Seafood by the Sea at Salinas
Salinas has a huge selection of fresh seafood on their menu ranging from calamari, muscles, prawns to some interesting combos like chocolate prawns. They often have specials that would feature a fresh fish catch that isn’t always on their menu. You can follow their facebook page for announcements on these.
The Meatier side of Salinas
They have meaty and curry choices too. For our latest outing there I opted for something meaty. Myself and my mom ordered the Mauritian Beef Fillet, it was cooked to perfection. It’s a grilled prime fillet served on a roasted brown mushroom and topped with a creamy bacon and blue cheese sauce. My mom doesn’t like blue choose so she swapped her sauce for another. My brother had one of the current specials, Springbok Shanks. All their mains get served with potato wedges and veggies.
The Sweet Side of Salinas
We don’t often order desserts when we go out, but this time we did. There are a few options, including gelato. Brownies and cheesecake was this evening’s specials. I tried the chocolate pot islands, it was very rich, sweet and bitter, a true chocolate lover’s dream. My brother had the tiramisu and my mom her favourite, cheesecake.
Drinks at Salinas
If you’re a wine lover Salinas is definitely a must stop for you if you’re in the area. Their wine list is a couple of pages long! You can get a glimpse of the list over here. They also have a few cocktails but not a lot of gin options. I tried my very first martini, it wasn’t a traditional one but it was really good and a strawberry daiquiri. It was divine.
The services was friendly, the food good. They’re wheelchair accessible as well, which is a huge plus point in my book. So if you’re a local or a vacation goer and looking for a good time out with an ocean view, I highly recommend you pop into Salinas!
