Have you decided that it’s time you joined the gym? Even if you don’t need to lose any weight, it’s still a good idea to try and get fitter. The fitter you are, then the more energy you’ll have. That means that mornings might not seem like such a drag anymore, and you might not have to rely on all that coffee to get you through the day! But that’s not the only reason why joining the gym might be good for you. Improving your fitness can also help you improve your sleep. Not only that, though, but your core and back muscles will become stronger, which can get rid of any back pain that you might have been suffering from. Plus, it’s a great excuse to get out there and meet some new people!

New To The Gym? Here's What You'll Need 1So, do you think that joining the gym is something you’d be interested in? If so, make sure you pack your gym bag correctly before your first session. You don’t want to forget any of the following!

Gym Membership

Don’t just turn up to the gym without a membership. A few gyms will allow you to sign up there and then. But most will prefer you to join in advance so that they can send you out a membership card first. Joining a gym can be notoriously expensive, so you might want to wait to see if any of your local gyms offer any special deals and discounts. Signing up for a discounted month will at least give you a chance to try out the gym at a reasonable price, rather than paying full price only to find that you don’t enjoy it.

Sports Clothes

Next, you need to make sure you have the right kind of clothes. You won’t be able to work out in your jeans and regular T-shirts. They will cause your body to sweat excessively, and they won’t allow you to move so easily. So, take a look online at some T-shirts, leggings, and sweatshirts for women that are designed to be worn while playing sports or working out. Ideally, you need to find ones that are made with sweat-wicking materials. That just means that they lift the sweat off the body, which will prevent you from overheating in your gym class!

Supportive Shoes

You will need to wear trainers when you are working out, but you shouldn’t just wear the ones that you wear with all your casual outfits at the minute. These won’t offer your feet or ankles enough support when you are being active. If you are doing any exercises that put particular strain on your feet while you workout, such as jogging on the treadmill or taking part in a HIIT class that involves a lot of jumping around, you need some good, strong shoes that offer plenty of support. If you aren’t too sure which ones are best for you, it’s worth visiting your nearest sports clothes shop. And asking in there for some more information. They might even advise that you get your gait analysed to make sure that there aren’t any issues with your feet that might need correcting with specialist gym shoes.

You deserve to be healthy. You deserve to feel good. You deserve to be happy! What is holding you back? Water Bottle

Don’t forget your water bottle as well. Working out can be very thirsty work. You will need to try and keep that dehydration at bay by topping up your liquids constantly. Even though most gyms will have water fountains and vending machines full of bottles of water, it’s still a good idea to take your own personal one. That way, you can even top it up with your favorite homemade isotonic drink if you need some extra energy for a boost in your workouts!

Some Music

One of the biggest problems that many people face when they hit the gym is that their motivation could very quickly disappear. Are you worried that you might not be bothered to commit to a proper workout even once you have arrived? There’s one great solution for this – you just need to listen to some music! So, remember to download your favorite playlist onto your phone. Take your headphones with you so that you can listen to some cool beats while you’re hard at work. Lots of gym bunnies swear by listening to music during their workouts, so it’s certainly worth a try!

Once you have all of the above in your gym bag, you are all ready for your very first session. Have fun, I’m sure it’ll be a good one!
