Uses for Shea Butter & Advantages

Soil Shea Butter 1

Hi everyone, so to kick this week off I’m going all about shae butter because we all know it by now, I love natural skincare! I had a little bit of luck and managed to get my hands on some Kenyan Shea butter from Soil and although I’ve read amazing things about it I wasn’t entirely sure what I could use it for nor how to use it so I thought I’d compile some of my favourite uses for it that I found reading up on it.

Uses for Shea Butter

1.  As a lip balm

Warm up a small amount of  butter in your hands and apply to your lips, it provides amazing protections against the elements while providing a natural shine

2. As a facial moisturizer

Warm up some shea butter in your hands and massage into your face, this will help the  butter absorb into your skin, apply right after you showered to provide maximum absorption time so you don’t end up with a shiny face, the access shea butter can be removed with a facial tissue if it’s still shiny after 30 minutes.

The advantages includes improved elasticity of the skin, balancing moisture and protection against the elements.

3. As a full body moisturizer

Apply one table spoon of shea butter to hot bath water then just sit back and soak away. Shea butter can be applied as a massage oil as well by heating it to 40°C and then massaging it into the skin.

4. As a hair treatment for dry hair & scalp

Applyit to the ends of your hair the night before you wash your hair,  cover with a hot towel for +- 30 minutes, massage some shea butter into your scalp and leave in over night. If you have extremely dry hair the shea butter can be applied 10 minutes after hair washing as a stay in conditioner, just avoid the roots of your hair as it might cause your hair to get oily.

5. As an after-sun treatment

It works great to sooth skin after a little bit too much sun and it acts as a natural sunscreen as well, but the UV protection is rather low (3 -4)

6. As a shaving cream

Soften some shea butter in your hands and apply to your legs, shave as you normally would and enjoy your super smooth legs.

Other advantages of shea butter.

  • It helps control eczema and acne
  • It soothes skin irritation like insect bites
  • It helps with stretch marks during pregnancy
  • It helps sooth sore and fatigued muscles
  • It helps to relieve itchy skin
  • It helps for blemishes
