Today’s post is for all of you that’s never been able to turn into a bronzed goddess. You go red and you peel and go back to your default shade of pale. If you’re lucky you will go a bit darker with a lot of sun exposure, but it doesn’t last long. This isn’t the best choice tho as we all know how dangerous the sun can be. I’ve tried tans from cans but it’s SO much work to maintain and to apply it without the streaks just doesn’t do it for me. I need a lazy girl’s tan. This is where Nu-Tan Patches comes in. Today I will be introducing to the product and in a couple of weeks we will re-group and see if it really works.
Introducing Nu-Tan Patches
I was extremely fortunate to get chosen by Nu-Tan to try and test their tanning patches I trialed it for a good couple of months. Let’s find out what exactly Nu-Tan is and how it works.
What is Nu-Tan™?
Nu-Tan is a cosmetic product that stimulates a natural increase in melanocyte production. Melanocytes are the main determinant of skin color in humans, a brown pigment which causes skin to become darker in appearance, instead of red, when exposed to UV rays. Users of Nu-Tan develop a gradual, natural looking tan with minimal sun exposure. It is particularly useful for fair-skinned individuals who find that they cannot tan simply by spending time in the sun, however, excellent cosmetic tanning results are achieved by all skin types.
I didn’t find any evidence that Nu-Tan uses melanotan 2!
How will it work for me?
Because NU-TAN works naturally with your body, everyone’s experience can be different. I read through their different types of how one can tan and I fall under Type 2, you can read about all the different types over here to see how Nu-Tan will work for you.
Type two is the “Just-Barelys” This group isn’t extremely pale but still has trouble tanning. We burn easily and usually peel but we can eventually develop a slight tan. If you have freckles, you can expect them to darken more quickly than the rest of your skin (most likely within the first week). Also, a few new freckles might appear. Your skin should start to darken around the third week of dosages.
What did I find inside my Nu-Tan Patch Kit ?
Five silver sachets with 2 patches inside each, that’s a total of 10 patches. Enough for 5 – 15 days. Depending on how frequently the patch is applied.
How to use the Nu-Tan Patches
Clean an area on the arm. Let it dry thoroughly. Remove a patch from the package. Remove the white strip from the patch and attach it to the cleaned and dried area. Be careful not to touch the inside of the patch. Press it down with with your palm to make sure it is securely attached. Sometimes you will feel the micro needles. After two to three hours remove the patch. You can keep it on overnight and remove it in the morning. Once removed, discard the patch. I’ve found that cleaning the area with surgical alcohol really helps the patch stick. I also felt the micro needles a couple of times but it didn’t hurt.
On the day that you remove your patch you need 30 min laying out in the sun. (15 minutes on a side) Do not burn. Start out slow and work your way up to full time. If you will be spending more than 30 minutes in the sun make sure to apply sunblock after 30 minutes outside. In the sun you will get tan lines as nu-tan creates a natural tan NOT a fake tan. Sunblock on the face is still compulsory!! Otherwise your face will go darker than the rest of your body. The UV exposure is extremely important for your tan to develop.
Possible Side Effects
Some users get these side effects the first couple of days until the body is used to the nu-tan substance
- burning or tingling where the patch is
- flushing of the face
I experienced flushing of my face when I applied the patch for the first time but thereafter it was fine.
Who cannot use Nu-Tan?
- People with heart problems.
- People with cancer.
- Woman who are pregnant.
Nu-Tan has not been tested on people with the above mentioned conditions and they do not have any data available on the interactions.
So when can you expect results?
Depending on your skin type and how thoroughly you follow the instructions, you can reach a tan within 10 – 30 days. Skin type 1 will take much longer to get a tan than skin type 3.
My Experience and Results
I opted for applying the patch every third day which resulted in me seeing the tan develop slower than if you were to use it every second day. I also opted to get my UV exposure through sun exposure only as I’m not a fan of sunbeds. Some days were cloudy when I had to get my dose of UV, so I would get it the next day. Except from the flushed face on the first day I didn’t experience any other side effects.
The patch is easy to use. I find it better to use it at night and leave it on than using it for 2 – 3 hours during the day. As soon as I sweat a little bit the patch would come off easily but if I sleep with it it stays put the entire night. I started seeing results about a month into using the patches. Because I wear open shoulder tops with longer pants my arms and shoulders are darker than my legs. However when I started on the patches I had a sunburn so the difference in the before and after photos are best noticeable on my legs.
The sunburn also healed faster than usual and I didn’t end up peeling like I usually would. I have to admit that I didn’t get enough sun exposure either due to my sudden move halfway across South Africa. Life just likes to throw me curve balls!
I tried to stretch the use as much as possible, the after photos are also already of a faded tan. As you can see my dark spots didn’t darken a lot.
PS – I struggled a bit to get the tan to show up properly on camera.
A tan is visible on my face as well, I always wear an SPF when I go out so even with the SPF the tan still developed, not as intense but it is there.
A healthy bronze glow in the sunlight.
Recommendation
I recommend Nu-Tan to you only if you are 1) Patient – it takes a while to see results and because it’s so gradual you might not even notice the tan developing until your foundation doesn’t match your skin tone. 2) Constant – You need to keep to applying the patches and getting the UV exposure to maximize the tan developing every second or third day.
If you have any questions of comments about Nu-Tan please pop them into the comment section. I will answer any questions to the best of my ability. If I can’t I will revert back to Nu-Tan!
