This recipe is inspired and adapted from one of the recipes in Jamie Oliver’s 30 Minute Meals cookbook. I changed the recipe around a bit to work for me by removing and swapping some of the ingredients for things that are more regularly sitting in our fridge. This dish goes well with nearly anything from “boerewors” to pork chops and it’s really easy and fast to make. Dauphinoise Potatoes.
Dauphinoise Potatoes
Ingredients:
- 4 – 6 Potatoes, peeled and sliced
- 250 ml Cream
- 1 Purple Onion, peeled, halved and sliced (You can use a white onion as well I just like the colour the purple onion ads to the dish)
- 1/2 Cup of grated cheddar cheese OR Half a packet of parmesan cheese, you can use nearly any type of cheese you like
- Thyme to taste
- Nutmeg to taste
- Salt to taste
- 3 Bay leaves
Method:
Pack the potato slices into a prepared oven dish, pack the onion slices on top, sprinkle the cheese over as well as all the herbs and spices. Pour the cream over, cover with foil and bake in the oven for 20 – 30 minutes!
This is a really lovely side dish and always comes out so creamy. You can even add some more types of veggies to make it work for you. Just don’t add mushrooms or tomatoes (veggies with loads of water) And for an extra spin make it with some bacon!

They are so easy, you won’t go wrong!
Went for supper last night and they had this on the menu…I looked so forward to it (potato addict things) and the potatoes were rock hard. I was so disappointed.
This looks so good…minus the bacon (I don’t eat bacon).
Also LOVE Jamie Oliver 15 and 30 minute meals. I wanted to share a recipe for heritage day that I never got around to. Procrastinator problems….lol.
Now I’m hungry!!
hahaha, well at least you have a dinner idea now! You can basically add anything to this
